Burke Edward John
Passed away on February 19, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones, one week shy of his 78th birthday. He was born in Toronto, to the late Florence and John Burke, on February 28th, 1939. He was predeceased by his sister Beverly Smith. He is survived by his loving partner Faye Hetz, his daughter Tara Burke (Marty Pincombe), his step-children Rebecca and Sam Hetz (Hana Alazem), and his grandchildren Madison and Scott Pincombe, and Ava Alazem-Hetz. Remembered by Neil and Adam Cronk (Jennifer Hardwick), and Margaret Grant. Although involved in both football and gymnastics at Bloor Collegiate, he left high school early to help support his family. He had many jobs in his early years; truck driver, taxi driver, advertising, drapery installer, and eventually started his own construction management company. Despite his early exit from school, he spent his life in the pursuit of knowledge and in particular was a scholar of Russian literature. He was never without a book in hand. He was a lover of jazz, fine food, Monty Python, his Black Sox baseball team, and his dogs, but most of all his family. A charming, funny, kind and generous man, he was lucky to have a wide circle of lifelong friends – many of whom spent time with him at his house in Prince Edward County - who will miss him terribly. He and Faye enjoyed retirement in Kingston, where she never left his side, caring for him as his disease progressed. We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Fairmount Home in Kingston, Ontario, where he spent his last few months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, to help fund research in Lewy Body Dementia http://www.alzheimer.ca/en/About-dementia/Dementias/Lewy-Body-Dementia. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday March 25, 2017 from 2:00pm till 4:30pm at the Hot House Restaurant 35 Church Street Toronto Ontario
